July Vixen of the Month - Andrea Ferguson

Lady Kori: What is your profession?

Andrea: By day and sometimes night I am a Medical Radiation Technologist.  I work in the CT, interventional and mammography areas of diagnostics.

LK: How long have you been pole dancing?

A: I had my very first class in 2006 when there was no studio and only one portable pole that was brought into a women's only fitness studio at Yonge and Rosedale.  I poled for 4 years and then had to take some time off due to injury.  I recently have rediscovered pole and have been loving it even more for the last year and a half!

LK: How did you learn about pole dancing?

A: Like everything else, I googled it!

LK: What made you decide it might be for you and to try it?

A: I have always loved to dance and challenge myself physically so it is a perfect combination for me.

LK: What made you choose Brass Vixens as a studio?

A: I love to perform so when I found out about Troupe and the themed showcases the studio puts on I was hooked!  I like that the studio gives everyone the opportunity to show off what they have learned in such a supportive environment.

LK: What was your first impression?

A: Things have changed a lot since I first started pole dancing. It started out as a pretty tame sexy workout class but has evolved into something much more.  There are more elements of dance incorporated now and pole fitness has become recognized as a serious sport.

LK: What makes you return for more?

A: There is always something new to learn and so many ways to challenge yourself.  It is something that I can see myself doing for a very long time.  I love how I feel when I dance and I feel it keeps my body strong!

LK: Do you have any previous fitness or dance background?

A: When I took time off pole I joined a Latin dance company and performed various salsa and bachata routines.  The last routine I did was an intense competition routine for the Canada Salsa Congress in October 2014.  I also love yoga and I hit up the gym to train off the pole.

LK: How has it impacted your experience with pole and your style as a pole dancer?

A: I work a little bit of Latin hip into my pole dancing!

LK: Heels or no heels?!

A: Both! I feel powerful in heels but sometimes I want to feel contemporary so I go bare foot.

LK: Do you have any pole goals?

A: I really need to do a solo!

LK: Aside from pole, do you have a favourite class and why?

A: Love Afrodisia!!  The West African movement makes you feel so free and you work up a good sweat too!

LK: What are your top 3 reasons to recommend attending classes at Brass Vixens?

A: The instructors are very knowledgeable and willing to help you achieve your goals.

It is a great place to get fit and confident.

Multiple locations to choose from and unlimited classes for one price.

LK: What is an exciting moment along your journey at Brass Vixens that you'll never forget?!

A: I was so excited to compete and win with the Army of Brass in the Great White North pole competition last summer.   It was so amazing to be on stage with such an amazing group of dancers!
