November Vixen of the month

Hello Betsy!

Lady Kori:  What work do you do?

Betsy: I'm a UX designer for a startup software company.

LK: How did you first discover pole dancing?

Betsy: It was through Groupon.

LK: Do you have any previous dance, fitness or sports experience?

Betsy: Only a little bit of figure skating when I was a kid.

LK: What made you feel pole dancing could be for you and decide to try it?

Betsy:  I was looking for something new.  The Brass Vixens studio was very close to my apartment so I decided to try a class.

LK: How did you come to be a member at Brass Vixens?

Betsy:  At first I only did 1 class per week until one day I was able to do the strength hold!  I never thought it was possible!  That's when I knew I wanted to come more often and become a Vixen!

LK: What were your first impressions?

Betsy:  Some of the moves seemed impossible for me to do as I had no upper body strength!  Also, it was very awkward to see myself attempting to be sexy in the mirror!

LK: What keeps you committed to Brass Vixens and pole dancing?

Betsy:  The amazing instructors and the community.  It's something I look forward to everyday!  Participating in the troupes and performances sets me a goal and makes me want to push myself to get better.

LK: What do you feel is a crucial element for a successful class experience?

Betsy:  Patience. Patience. Patience!  Every pole journey is different for everyone of us.  Be patient about the progress, accept what your body can and can't do and don't get injured!

LK: What has been an exciting moment for you on your pole journey?

Betsy:  There have been so many of them:  my first time climbing up the pole, first time trying spin pole, first time inverting, first time not feeling the pain from superman!  There's never a lack of exciting moments at Brass Vixens!

LK: Do you have any pole goals?

Betsy: Ayesha!

LK: How has pole dancing and taking classes at Brass Vixens effected the rest of your life and sense of self?

Betsy:  Confidence!  I have never been happier with myself and I'm definitely so much stronger physically and psychologically.

LK: What has surprised you the most?

Betsy:  How much fun it could be to get fit and strong.

Mississauga Vixen of the Month Krysta

Vixen of the Month Krysta

Vanessa: What do you do besides pole dancing (profession, hobbies, interests etc.)?

Krysta: I am a French teacher and I’m in love with French cuisine and French literature. Other than pole dance I enjoy going mountain biking with my husband at Hilton Falls in Milton, such beautiful scenery and trails there.

Vanessa: When did you first discover or hear about pole dancing?

Krysta: I heard about pole dancing as a form of fitness at the Women’s’ Show in 2008; thought it was an interesting idea but I never actually went to try it out. Then a friend of mine showed me a YouTube video of Anastasia performing on Ukraine’s Got Talent and I thought to myself “Oh my Gosh, I have to try this!”

Vanessa: Do you have any previous dance or fitness background?

Krysta:  When I was younger I did gymnastics and later pursued classical dance- ballet, tap and jazz. Acro has always been my absolute favourite and that’s why I like pole dancing so much because it has a lot of acrobatics in it.

Vanessa: What surprised you most about pole dancing?

Krysta: I knew pole dancing would be hard so that wasn’t surprising. I was more surprised with how sweet and cool everyone at Brass Vixens is. It’s so inspiring and encouraging to dance in an environment where everyone is welcoming and respectful of one another.

Vanessa: What keeps you continuing to pole dance and attend classes at Brass Vixens?

Krysta: The atmosphere here, the staff and my fellow Vixens keep me continuing to pole dance and take classes here. Everyone always makes me feel welcome and I love that there’s always something new to learn, always an opportunity to learn and challenge myself.

Vanessa: Do you have any pole/aerial goals?

Krysta: I want to keep doing this for as long as I can. It’ll be nice to see myself in the advanced pole classes and one day instructing classes.

Vanessa: Do you have a favourite class and why?

Krysta: I love all the classes here but I must say that I love being in troupe.  I love learning the different choreography and I also love that I’ll have the chance to perform and show what I’ve learned and what I can do.

Vanessa: How has attending classes at Brass Vixens affected the rest of your life and sense of self?

Krysta: Attending classes at Brass Vixens has made me feel a lot more solid in my sense of self. I am very proud of myself; nothing beats that feeling when you overcome a challenging move in pole. This experience has definitely made me more confident in my physical and mental abilities.

Vanessa: How do your friends and family feel about your pole dance passion?

Krysta: My family is aware of this new passion of mine and my friends think it’s the coolest thing ever.

Vanessa: Heels or no heels?

Krysta: Absolutely heels!

Vanessa: How would you feel about having a dance move named after you?

Krysta: I would love that! It would have to be something acrobatic like a forearm stand or hand stand

Vanessa: What are your top 3 reasons to recommend pole dancing and Brass Vixens?

Krysta: 1) I would recommend Brass Vixens because of the staff and because the atmosphere here is amazing 2) I would recommend pole dancing because it’s an awesome combination of dance and fitness 3) I would recommend pole dancing at Brass Vixens because here you can be sexy, work out and have fun!
